Entry from: Athens, Greece Entry Title: "Easter at the Acropolis" Entry: "Well, I guess it is about time I put up my travel details on my Greece trip. Considering I slacked off writing this when I got right back from my trip, I have pretty much forgotten everything... Just Kidding. The day I got back from Istanbul, I came back to my apartment in Cyprus, unpacked and repacked and left the next morning at 5 am to get on the bus to go to the airport! (run-on sentence here was Just completely necessary to give you the "out of breath" feeling) We got on the plane around nine in the morning and took off to Athens, Greece. NOTE ON THE AIRPLANE: Aegean Airlines has been the best airline I have flown on out here. The planes are clean and roomy. All of the seats are comfortable with a good amount of leg-room *unlike some airlines I fly on...Airtran* The best part of all though is that they feed you. Ladies and gentlemen I am talking "food Food". Not the Delta peanuts or the Airtran pretzels; no no no! We get a full meal. I have eaten better on the Aegean planes than I do at my apartment. Here is the list of food, in no particular order that I have eaten during one of the flights: 1. lasagna, whole wheat rolls, cucumber/tomato salad, and chocolate cake 2. yogurt, scrambled eggs, toast and jam 3. turkey and ...

"Chora, the Capital of Skyros" Greekcypriot's photos around SKYROS , Greece (travel pics)

Preview of Greekcypriot's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: SKYROS , Greece Entry Title: "Chora, the Capital of Skyros" Entry: "I LOVE THE CAPITAL OF SKYROS!!! We come to the capital of Skyros called Chora. I can't wait to walk through its maze of steep and narrow streets where no cars can pass. Cars can reach as far as the central square, and from this point on, the road leads to the narrow lanes and the capital's neighbourhoods. Parking is a problem but we are lucky to park our car not very far from the taxi square. The capital lies on the east side of the narrow waist of Skyros that divides the island to the north and south. On top of the hill it is the Castle, - a Byzantine fortress with some Venetian trimmings built over an ancient acropolis. Just below the castle it is a very old monastery but it is kept locked after the earthquake. The view from up here is breathtaking! The Cycladic-style cube houses stacked on top of each other to the summit of the hill give some panoramic views from the round area. In the very centre of the capital and through the main street there are many nice restaurants, café bars, souvenir shops that lead to an open square overlooking the sea. I come to the other end and the view is fantastic! It is the long beach of Molos and Magazia and it is just 5 steps from here to get to the two Museums of the island. I am ...

Travel Guide New Mexico tm, State Capitol Building

New Mexico State Capitol Building Today's New Mexico State Capitol, known as the Roundhouse, is the only round capitol building in the country. It was built by Robert E. McKee with a design by WC Kruger that combined elements of New Mexico Territorial style, Pueblo adobe architecture and Greek Revival adaptations. The 232000 square-foot Roundhouse was dedicated on Dec. 8, 1966. From a bird's-eye view, the Roundhouse resembles the Zia sun symbol, which is also emblazoned on the New Mexico state flag. The image, which originated at Zia Pueblo, incorporates elements representing the sun's rays, the four directions, the four seasons, and the four phases of life. The State Seal of New Mexico, carved in stone, hangs above each of the Roundhouse's four entrance wings. The four-story Roundhouse includes a subterranean story and a central interior Rotunda that rises 60 feet through the top three stories. The Rotunda's design elements include New Mexico Travertine marble featuring a turquoise and brass mosaic depicting the New Mexico State Seal. The ceiling skylight of stained glass is patterned after a Native American basket weave symbolizing the sky and the earth. The Capitol Art Collection includes paintings, sculpture, handcrafted furniture and other work by New Mexico artists and artisans. The Governor's Gallery, located on the fourth floor, was founded by Clare Apodaca, who served as New Mexico's First Lady from 1975 to 1978. The gallery, an outreach facility of the New ...

Thassos, Greek Islands - Travel Guide

greek architecture

The small, circular island of Thassos is located off the southern coast of mainland Greece, about 8 miles from the coastline of Macedonia. This unspoiled island has beautiful beaches which attract visitors looking for a quiet, relaxed break with a tradition Greek atmosphere. Resorts on Thassos include Thassos Town, Skala Potamias, Skala Prinos, Skala Rachoni, Golden Beach, Perfkari, Limenaria and Potos.

Thassos beaches on the south and east coast of the island are the most popular, with the quieter beaches and cove on the west coast. Golden Beach, Alyki and Paradise Beach, along with the sandy beaches at Skala Potamias are considered to be the best on the island. All of the beaches offer excellent conditions for swimming and watersports.

Covered in forested mountains, gentle hills and green farmland make the island ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding. The island has lots of quaint, picturesque mountain villages to explore, including Sotira, Panagia, Paries and Potamia. Like Mount Ipsaron, these villages are located off the beaten track but are worth visiting to soak up the tradition and culture of the island.

Waiting to be explored on foot or mountain bike are the rugged mountains, olive groves and pine forests, along with some really good coastal paths. Pure white marble has been produced here for more than 2000 years. A visit to the ancient marble quarries and the islands museum which is home to many ancient marble sculptures is a must. Limenas offers visitors the chance to see local artists creating fantastic marble sculptures which can then be purchased in one of the towns many art shops.

Excursions available include trips to the Limenas to see the Acropolis and temples dedicated to Apollo and Athena, and the ancient amphitheatre where performances are held during the summer evenings, boat trips to the islands of Kinira and Thassopoula and visits to medieval monasteries. Summer months here are hot and dry with temperatures around 27C and 11 hours of sunshine a day.

When looking at holiday deals to Thassos why not consider visiting during the spring when the island enjoys warm weather with little rainfall and is covered in beautiful, colourful wild flowers. If you are looking for a relaxing break in a traditional, unspoilt setting then watch out for the many last minute holidays which are on offer to this beautiful Greek island of Thassos.
